Chapter 2: How Do We Think About World Politics?

Since this chapter largely deals with counterfactual analysis in order to introduce the student to the systematic analysis of world politics, we don't have many links here. But you may find the material that deals with the role of ethics in international affairs of some interest. One of the debates on which students continue to be energized, of course, is over the putative distinction between a scientific study of politics and a value laden study of politics. Thus, the role of ethics in the international arena is addressed by some of the links you will find below.

One of the most perplexing recent issues that is target-rich for discussions of facts and values is, of course, Bosnia. A wonderful summary on this may be found in NBC's Bosnia page on the NBC server. In addition, look at the link to BosniaLink . This site includes a chronology, the geography of the area, as well as a great deal of information on Zlata's diary. If the Bosnia topic doesn't elicit discussion on the difference between facts and values, try CTRL-ALT-DEL.
