From the American Geological Institute, working in conjunction with experienced geology professors, comes EarthInquiry—a series of Web-based investigation activities that have students analyze national and local data to explore real-world phenomena.  It is the first interactive project to provide a direct way of exploring and working with the newly accessible data as a means of developing a deeper understanding of fundamental geoscience concepts.

The EarthInquiry site at www.whfreeman.com/agi includes:

- seven interactive EarthInquiry modules (see Table of Contents for topics)
- access to AGI's database for the local and national real-time data needed to complete the lessons
- streaming real time articles from Scientific American on geological topics
- Instructors can use the site to track and record student progress via a built in gradebook.
